Kennedy Staff Grants (also known as Teacher Grants)
Dear Teachers and Staff!
Here is your Staff Grant Application Form. Please submit your new requests online before the monthly Staff Grant submittal cut-off time, which is 5pm on the last working day of the month. This cutoff gives the PTA time to review and share comments before voting on the second Wednesday of the following month (at the regularly scheduled monthly PTA meeting). Here are the cutoff dates and times for the 2020-2021 school year:

What qualifies as a Staff Grant? The Kennedy PTA grants funds to Staff/Teachers to benefit the Kennedy Middle School children and community. Application proposals may come from an individual teacher or staff member or a group of Kennedy teachers and staff. Higher priority is given to proposals that offer school-wide access to students, however, staff members are also encouraged to submit proposals that will benefit individual classrooms or grade levels. More specifically, Staff Grant applications may by submitted for a wide range of projects, activities, books, equipment, or anything that enhances, improves or nurtures academic development, social-emotional-attitudinal development, specific skills, or the desire of the students to learn/create, consistent with the District’s Academic Performance Standards.
What about funding for Professional Development for teachers? Professional Development grants are not necessarily encouraged but will be considered on a case-by-case basis, if requested, subject to the availability of funds. If approved, typically, registration fees for the PD training event will be covered. Other costs such as Travel, Lodging and/or Meals are normally not covered, but are considered, on a case-by-case basis and subject to availability of funds.
Who may submit a grant application proposal? Any staff member at Kennedy is eligible to apply for a grant by submitting this form.
How much funding may I apply for? Technically, there’s no upper limit to the Staff Grant, however, the typical grant is in the hundreds of dollars. Larger amounts are also considered but these will be considered with an eye to a proportionally higher benefit to the students.
When is the decision made on my proposal? When will I find out? If you submit by the cutoff deadline (~2 weeks ahead of a PTA meeting, per the guidelines above) you should get your decision at the next board meeting. You’ll be notified of the PTA board’s decision in the week following the board meeting. Sometimes voting is deferred if clarification of your proposal is needed.
When do I receive the funds if my proposal is accepted? After the PTA board approves your grant proposal, you will be notified of the approval. You are free at any time to make the purchases per your proposal and save the receipts, so that upon approval you can submit the receipts to the PTA board for reimbursement. Note the risk that if approval is not forthcoming you will need to find funding from another source.
What responsibilities do successful applicants have? You will need to follow through on the project to completion, submit all receipts for reimbursement, and provide an evaluation report at the end of project regarding the results and to what extent the goals were achieved.
